The Good
- Glen Canyon Park at the end of the street: trails, a creek, ball fields and off-leash dog walks
- BART to downtown, the East Bay and the airport, plus I-280 and 101 for the Peninsula
- A real village at Diamond and Chenery, with coffee, dinner, a grocery and the library branch
- Values hold up: houses sell about 18% over the citywide median, condos about 12% over
The Tradeoffs
- A tad foggier than Noe Valley, just over the hill
- Hills: the Village is flat, most of the streets around it are not
- Only 15 condos sold last year: most of what comes up is houses
Glen Park is a village tucked into the hills just south of Noe Valley: a few flat blocks of shops and cafes at Diamond and Chenery, a BART station to everywhere, and Glen Canyon Park, a real canyon with a creek, trails and rock outcrops, at the end of the street. It runs roughly from the canyon and Diamond Heights east toward Bernal Heights, with I-280 along its southern edge for Peninsula commuters. Neighbors call the commercial heart "the Village," and it earns the name. The Fuller Team has been selling San Francisco homes since 2002, so this guide is less brochure and more neighbor: what the houses are really like, what they sell for, and why people who find Glen Park tend to stay.
The Neighborhood Block by Block

The Canyon at the End of the Street
At the bottom of the canyon are ball fields, tennis courts and a rec center. Farther north it goes wild, with trails, rock outcrops and Islais Creek. It’s an urban hike or an off-leash dog walk without getting in the car, and you forget the city is all around you.

The Village
The commercial heart sits at Diamond and Chenery: a few flat, walkable blocks of cafes, restaurants, a neighborhood grocery and the public library branch. Locals call it the Village, and on a Saturday morning it feels like one.

Every Era on One Block
Victorians, Edwardians and mid-century modern homes sit side by side here. Most are single-family houses, with condos in smaller converted buildings and a 2006 building above the grocery in the Village.

The Longer Story
The Homes in Detail
Homes for sale in Glen Park are mostly single-family houses, from Victorians and Edwardians to mid-century modern, many on hillside lots with views across the canyon or toward the bay. Condos are fewer: a mid-size building from 2006 above the grocery in the Village, and smaller buildings converted from multi-unit apartments.
Glen Canyon Park
The neighborhood is bounded on the west by Glen Canyon Park, more than 60 acres of open space. At the bottom of the canyon are ball fields, tennis courts and a recreation center with basketball courts. Further north the canyon becomes wild, with trails that are perfect for an urban hike or letting your dog run. It’s a wonderful place to lose yourself in nature for a while, and you’ll quickly forget you’re surrounded by a city.
The Village
The commercial center of the neighborhood is the intersection of Diamond and Chenery streets, where restaurants, shops and a grocery store form a small, close-knit shopping district. Add the neighborhood library branch and an elementary school, and Glen Park has the everyday stuff within a few flat blocks.
Getting Around by BART and 280
Glen Park is popular for its transportation options. The BART station provides easy, reliable access to downtown San Francisco, the East Bay and northern San Mateo County. Commuters who drive appreciate the quick access to I-280 and 101, which makes Glen Park a favorite with people who work down the Peninsula.
Weather
Glen Park has a reputation for being fairly sunny, although fog does creep in a little more often than in some other central neighborhoods, like Noe Valley just over the hill.
Questions We Hear
Are There Any Notable Historical Landmarks or Sites in Glen Park?
Some early homes in Glen Park were built after the opening of a zoo at the location of today’s Glen Canyon in 1898. Serious building didn’t begin until after the 1906 earthquake, when city residents were displaced from the disaster. An earthquake refugee camp was established on the future site of Glen Park School and Glen Canyon. Two or more homes in Glen Park today are believed to be converted earthquake shacks.
What Is There to Do in Glen Park?
Glen Park has a little bit of everything for nearly everybody; wonderful homes, a charming commercial corridor, an elementary school, and the outside recreation features of Glen Canyon. The park is a serene and green 66-acre site with recreation center, playground, baseball fields, hiking trails, and tennis courts.
How Does the Community Vibe in Glen Park Contribute to Its Real Estate Appeal?
The word “community” definitely applies to Glen Park. With its commercial, small-business “village” and beloved Glen Canyon park, residents enjoy a self-contained neighborhood that’s still close to the city’s diversions, along with good public transit options and quick access to 280 for the Silicon Valley commuters.
Where Can I Find New Construction in Glen Park?
As an “already built” neighborhood, Glen Park is not a neighborhood where you should expect to find substantial new construction projects. Smaller developers may renovate/flip existing properties, or may take advantage of recent housing laws to add additional units to already existing housing. Transit corridors and major neighborhood streets are the most likely areas for new construction buildings in already built neighborhoods with existing housing stock.
