Who It's For
The Monty is for people who want character and a downtown address: buyers who would rather have tall ceilings and a 1914 facade than a pool and a gym, people who walk or take BART to work, and pied-à-terre owners who want to walk to the opera house, SFMOMA and the best of downtown dining.
The Backstory: The Call Building
The San Francisco Call moved into 74 New Montgomery in 1914, after the 1906 fire left its tower on Market Street damaged. The Reid Brothers, who also designed the Hotel del Coronado, gave it the ornate cornice you still see today. In the mid-2000s the office building got a seismic retrofit, new systems and new windows designed to keep its classic look, and reopened as condos. New Urban Properties and Huntsman Architectural Group handled the conversion, and the building reopened as 107 condos in 2007.
